Most of the students don’t know, what the next step is,if they are not elected by government universities. Currently, there are lots of pathways to obtain the education (degree) other than government universities. I am completing a list of education providers in Sri Lanka that should answer most of the practical question that you could have.
The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) is unique within the national university system in being the only University to offer programmes of study leading to certificate, diploma, degree, postgraduate diploma and postgraduate degree through the Distance Mode. The University was set up by the Government of Sri Lanka under the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978, for the purpose of providing higher educational opportunities to working adults - providing them the road to success, surpassing age, vocation, gender, race, ethnicity and religion
The Department of Technical Education and Training is the pioneer organization in providing technical education and training in Sri Lanka.
The National Apprenticeship Board (NAB), predecessor to the present National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) was established in 1971 by an Act of Parliament. It was renamed as NAITA and functions within the purview of the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training.
NAITA conducts island wide training programmes aimed at small, medium and large scale enterprises, under the advise and direction of a board of management appointed by the Hon. Minister of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education.

ITS
Established in 1984 as a private University approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, it was founded by Dr. Edirisinghe, the President of ITS.Located in a calm environment on a 4.5 acre plot of land in the heart of Colombo (the Commercial Capital) in Narahenpita, the Institute of Technological Studies offers students an ideal, relaxed atmosphere. The blind cannot lead the blind. In like manner, the teacher should be very knowledgeable in the areas he or she teaches. At ITS, we are indeed proud to have such an academic staff who are knowledge in their various fields, with vast experience to back them up. The majority of lecturers at ITS possess either Doctoral degrees or Masters degrees in various fields. Furthermore, most of the lecturers have several years of teaching experience.
